LET'S START IT OFF WITH A POSITIVE JAM
Hello gorgeous people, the time is nigh! Things are afoot. We're about to drop it like it's hot etc etc. Our first show since the dawn of time is confirmed (June 12 at Bowery Ballroom) and we hope you can all come. We miss you all. Big time. We've got a video in the works (with Crankbunny, the crazy genius responsible for our Hollis video), a 7" on the way (if we can stop getting sidetracked at our meetings) and three birthdays to get through in the meantime. Write us something, say hello, come out in June.
BOWERY BALLROOM NYC JUNE 12TH is where you must be. We're playing with Bang Camaro and The Giraffes. Last time we played Bowery it sold out (and we tried to sneak people in but lord it was harder than we thought) so maybe buy tickets early this time?
DONT BUY STUFF - just have it! Free! Books and Coulee are up on MySpace for free listen and download (for the time being). They make kissing better, hangovers easier.
TEETERING ON THE BRINK OF AMAZING? Oh yeah. Below are some of our favorite bits from recent magazine write-ups...five million shots for the Deli Magazine writer who not only referred to "cockles" but also got spaghetti, cartoons and exuberant gloom in there.

NYC Bands on the rise: Demander
I like this band. Now I could approximate Demander's sound by describing the NYC trio as Tom Waits with surf rhythms and blistering female vocals, at times edging on melodicore, driving a speeding runaway train of adventure rock with vivid, emotive vocals. My roommate calls the band, "Yeah Yeah Yeahs on prog(?) pills, exuberant but kinda gloomy, Sergio Leone dramatics + NYC guitar rock." So I guess "cross-genre" would be an accurate descriptor; I feel guilty about making comparisons. Demander has its own sound, touching on so many different reference points – Las Vegas, Victorian London, Saturday morning cartoons, spaghetti westerns – that the band makes one question the point of criticism at all. Well I'm here to tell you the point – Demander needs to be heard, especially if any of the preceding words strike a hint of interest, excitement, or curiosity deep within your cockles. Word has it the band is just starting work on its sophomore release. I can't wait.

Pop quiz: You've released an unstoppably ass-kicking album that seamlessly melds decades of gritty New York underground rock with a bit of Pac-Northwest riot grrrl indie menace; you've toured extensively with everyone from the Hold Steady to New Model Army; your video for "Hollis" is as clever and engaging an animated clip as any by a more high-budget band; but somehow you still don't get your proper due amidst the many musical communities you so tantalizingly cater to. Who are you? There is no answer other than Demander, the dual-gender trio straight outta New York (and not Williamsburg, but actual New York, New York), whose fierce DIY ethics (last year's The Unkindness Of Ravens was self-released, as will be their in-the-works followup) are part of their endearing package but may have left some would-be devotees in the dark.
[Big Takeover Magazine - forthcoming Spring issue]
Since 2004, this New York, NY trio – featuring bassist/singer/songwriter Karen Corrêa, powerhouse drummer Sivan Harlap (both ex-Hissyfits) and guitarist Jared Scott – has kicked up quite a racket and they are finally starting to get some attention. Counting the Hold Steady and New Model Army (!) as their peers, the band offers everything you want in an edgy, modern indie punk influenced rock band: locked-in playing, sophisticated songs, great melodies, adventurous songwriting and flawless production. Fans of Rainer Maria, Alexisonfire, PJ Harvey and Sleater-Kinney will find this band a welcome addition to their lives. A solid start by a promising band that's teetering on the verge of amazing. Alright, that's an update. Tomorrow's my birthday, followed closely by the birthdays of my two cohorts. Send cake!

And... we'll be opening five dates of the NME Rock n' Roll
Riot Tour 2007 w. THE HOLD STEADY (yeah, we're in love, its
no secret) and ART BRUT! Prov, Boston, Philly, Raleigh and

Beyond all that, keep a look out in October for the birth
of our first 7" designed by the shit-hot Brian Ewing
